Safeway Converts Fleet Of Trucks To Biodiesel 29/01/2008

The California based greengrocer announced January 18th that it has converted more than 1,000 trucks to biodiesel under Safeway’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Initiative. The green trucks will be helping to reduce carbon footprint and air pollution.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s programme SmartWay Transport Partnership provides initiative to companies and organizations to reduce carbon emissions within their fleet.

Making big strides with the program, in San Francisco Safeway has managed to convert the entire fleet of trucks to biodiesel, meaning 1,500 vehicles spewing less carbon.

So here’s to hoping used trucks can become part of Safeway’s green plan. If Safeway took the lead in using used trucks as part of their fleet, maybe other delivery companies will follow suit.
