What To Look For When Examining Used Trucks Exterior 22/01/2008

When you’ve finally got to the stage of knowing what type, year and model of used truck you’re looking for and you're lucky enough to go and see the vehicle, there are some things to look for. This quick checklist should help identify what to look out for when checking the exterior of the vehicle and help you become an informed buyer.



Examine vehicle in the day, with clear weather

Check for nicks, scratches, thin or worn paint

Look for big defects not small ones that can easily be repaired

Examine from a distance for ripples, waves or poorly fitted panels

Look under the vehicle for rust and around the bottom of doors and fenders

Open and close doors, hood, trunk or hatchback, look for welding spots on frame

Open hood and check belts, hoses for crack or wear and tear

Check automatic transmission fluid, should be clear and reddish

Pull out oil dipstick, oil should not be gummy, grayish or smell burnt

Radiator coolant should be a clean, greenish (or blue or yellow color

Check the tires for sidewall cracks, uneven tire wear and brake fluid leakage
